The Twelve Months of 2008
Yeah so the old blogging lark has kind of dropped off in the last few months. That's what happens when you get sick, work crazy freelance hours, are trying to make a success of your own business, run two other blogs while Other Shit happens. So here's where I end up doing my micro journal for the year. This is a wee 'time out' exercise where I try to write the most memorable (horrific or happy) occurrence in each month of the past year...e.g. January - watched thousands of crows circle and flock in the trees over Belfast Lough while drinking mulled wine (this is true - and disturbingly is the ONLY thing I can remember about January right now...). February - Fixed the Bloody Shower that was Bloody Broken for Far Too Bloody Long. March - Launched www.talkirish.com - my new Irish language project...etc.
This year I think I'll try and do them via Twitter (or at least the public ones...I also have a soppy list, where I put down my nicest memories from the year. Kind of a nice thing to do with a glass of hot port in your hand, under a Christmas tree).
Anyway. It can be an interesting reflection on all things past. And of course you can do it for the future. E.g. January - take it easy until I am back to rude good health. February - get out for my first surf in a million years. March - Do St Paddy's day in NYC...etc etc.
The great thing about doing future memories is that they're like New Year's resolutions, but without the torture of discipline and dedication. They can just be a cool thing that you want to do, that you will look back on fondly at the end of 2009 or 2019.
And if your new year's resolution is to Learn Irish, check out www.talkirish.com for my Irish Word a Day blog - every day I stick up a new word, a sentence and some audio and flashcards for support. Nollaig Beannaithe agus Athbhliain faoi mhaise daoibh. (Blessed Christmas and a prosperous New Year to youse)
