So this is Christmas...

yep. Am having one of those 'it's nearly the longest night of the year...and another's year's over, and a new one's just about here, so what've I done?' moments.

So what have I done this year. Lots. And probably more than I can remember when I'm tired stupid and in a mental sulk because the sky is grey *again*...

And the year zipped by even faster than usual. 2008 is all wrapped up with a big red ribbon and sitting under the Christmas tree. 2008 is waiting to be ripped open and consumed too hastily (perhaps to be partially regurgitated in an ill-measured burp).

I want someone to explain why when I was wee time went slow, and it speeded up as I got older. Give it to me scientifically (preferably in a popularised science paperback format, aimed primarily at the American audience).

I think it's something to do with how much you've got going on in your life. When I was wee, the highlight of the day was Daddy coming home. The highlight of the week was Daddy coming home with a bag of sweets. And the highlight of the month was a cat getting killed on the the road. There wasn't a lot going on...so everything that happened kind of happened in CAPITAL LETTERS and got printed across my brain.

Now you can do things like multiple projects, sell a house, move addresses (several times), acquire new nephews, new friends, lose old ones, learn new languages, climb mountains, swim through caves and visit strange new cities in just one year, and at the end you still feel like although you've done LOADS, you haven't done what you want to do.

Which, right now (unfortunately for my work commitment before leaving for Germany and France) is drink a huge fat steaming mug of hot chocolate and sulk a bit more at the sky.
