The Jane Bradfords

This day last week I had to do 2 things:

1 Babysit the Holy Godchild
2 Appreciate the Talented Younger Brother

You heard about the Holy Godchild. So now meet my brother Declan.

When I was about seven and Deci was about 2, he peed in my tadpole bucket. We were outside at the time. It was a hot day. Deci just didn't see why he should go inside to use the loo. Or why he should pee in the ditch. Or anywhere except my bucket of hundreds of almost-frog-poles that I'd raised from a dots in jelly through spring and most of summer.

My almost-frog-poles had little front and back legs. They were eating the worms I'd dangled in the water for them - a sure sign they were about to become froglets. And Deci peed on them. I was raging and shouted at him. He dandered away, unconcerned. I checked my little pets and then went off to climb a tree. About an hour later I came back to my darlings. And found they'd all turned white and were floating at the top of the bucket. This was not the turning point in my almost-frog-poles becoming froglets. They were dead.

If I was raging earlier, I was more raging then. Luckily, I remembered Daddy had just been delivered his brand new shotgun. And that it was safely loaded and stored in my parent's bedroom. So I decided to shoot Deci. Just to teach him a lesson.

Daddy caught me on the stairs with the gun. I didn't get to shoot Deci.

And isn't that lucky! Coz it turns out Deci isn't just good at peeing on almost-frog-poles, he's a chart-topping musician, having had a number one hit with his song Hide From the Cold...

So last Friday, the clan turned out to support Deci at Electric Mainline's fantastic gig in Sandino's - Chris McConaghy (fabulous), The Jane Bradfords (Deci's band), Trip Fontaine and Oppenheimer. And he was great. Anyway. Don't take my word for it...check his songs out on itunes or myspace

Oh yeah. And the almost-frog-poles wasn't Deci's only brush with death. Lucky sod had both kinds of meningitis there a while back...and survived. Tell yeeez, he's just in competition with me and Michael (talented younger brother number 1) for the most Complicated and Dangerous Brain Infection (encephalitis...a long story...maybe some day I'll blog it...).
